Student Photography

Studio Response worked with students from Cardiff University’s Clinical Photography (PgCert) course through a mentoring partnership with Cardiff University, inviting them to use their skills to improve wellbeing at the hospital beyond their medical remit.

The aim of this commission was to support local professional development and set students a brief outside of their professional practice. Studio Response facilitated an introductory session into arts, health and wellbeing, as well as a workshop that encouraged the students to observe their working environment with fresh eyes and consider the impact that the environment has on the wellbeing of staff, patients, their families and carers.

The site-specific photography is installed in public spaces including quiet rooms, relatives’ rooms and waiting areas. The artists are: Joe Moody, Rhian Lloyd, Stephanie Railey, Liam Richards, Rhys Williams, Leilani Winslade and Beathan Halbert.

On this page you can watch videos from two of the students – Leilani Winslade and Joe Moody – to find out more about their ideas and how they made their photographs.

‘This project was an exciting opportunity for collaboration between staff and HEIW funded clinical photography students of Cardiff University, Aneurin Bevan UHB, Cardiff & Vale UHB, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, Swansea Bay UHB and Studio Response. The project has given the students scope to think more broadly about the role photography can play in their professional practice.’

- Amy Lake, Lecturer & Programme Manager for Clinical Photography

“We are delighted with the photographs which are now installed at the Grange; they help connect the hospital to its local landscape and offer a familiarity to our staff, patients and visitors which help distract, calm and reassure at the most difficult of times.”

Peter Carr, Chair of Arts Strategy Group and Executive Director of Therapies and Health Science

Gweithiodd Studio Response gyda myfyrwyr o Gwrs Ffotograffiaeth Glinigol (PgCert) Prifysgol Caerdydd drwy bartneriaeth fentora gyda Phrifysgol Caerdydd, gan eu gwahodd i ddefnyddio eu sgiliau i wella llesiant yn yr ysbyty y tu hwnt i'w cylch gwaith meddygol.

Nod y comisiwn hwn oedd cefnogi datblygiad proffesiynol lleol a rhoi briff i fyfyrwyr y tu allan i'w hymarfer proffesiynol. Hwylusodd Studio Response gyflwyniad i'r celfyddydau, iechyd a llesiant, yn ogystal â gweithdy a oedd yn annog y myfyrwyr i edrych ar eu hamgylchedd gwaith gyda llygaid ffres ac ystyried yr effaith y mae'r amgylchedd yn ei chael ar lesiant staff, cleifion, eu teuluoedd a'u gofalwyr.

Mae'r ffotograffau safle-benodol wedi'u gosod mewn mannau cyhoeddus gan gynnwys ystafelloedd tawel, ystafelloedd perthnasau ac ardaloedd aros. Yr artistiaid yw: Joe Moody, Rhian Lloyd, Stephanie Railey, Liam Richards, Rhys Williams, Leilani Winslade a Beathan Halbert.

Ar y dudalen hon gallwch wylio fideos gan ddau o'r myfyrwyr - Leilani Winslade a Joe Moody - i ddarganfod mwy am eu syniadau a sut gwnaethant greu eu ffotograffau.

'Roedd y prosiect hwn yn gyfle cyffrous i staff a myfyrwyr ffotograffiaeth glinigol a ariannwyd gan AaGIC o Brifysgol Caerdydd, BIP Aneurin Bevan, BIP Caerdydd a'r Fro, BIP Cwm Taf Morgannwg, BIP Abertawe ac Studio Response gydweithio. Mae'r prosiect wedi rhoi cyfle i'r myfyrwyr feddwl yn ehangach am y rôl y gall ffotograffiaeth ei chwarae yn eu hymarfer proffesiynol.'

- Amy Lake, Darlithydd a Rheolwr Rhaglen ar gyfer Ffotograffiaeth Glinigol
