Following Lines
On Level 2 illustrator Hannah Davies looks at how nature and the built environment co-exist in our towns and cities, drawing fantastical views of the town of Cwmbran. Hannah visited Cwmbran in 2019, taking pictures and making sketches that would become these illustrations.
The artist said: “I took a keen interest in the architecture in the town - the shapes, patterns and textures. I wanted to try and capture the detail and depth of the community and life in Cwmbran, portraying a town in a playful manner through a variety of lines, textures and scales.”

Meddai'r artist: 'Roedd gennyf ddiddordeb mawr ym mhensaernïaeth y dref - y siapiau, y patrymau a'r gweadau. Roeddwn i eisiau ceisio adlewyrchu manylion a dyfnder y gymuned a bywyd yng Nghwmbrân, gan bortreadu tref mewn modd chwareus drwy amrywiaeth o linellau, gweadau a graddfeydd.'

Hannah Davies is a Swansea-based illustrator who takes inspiration from the textures and patterns of the natural world. Her illustrations typically include complex, hand-drawn line work, as well as a sense of the handcrafted.
Hannah trained in surface pattern design and also has her own line of ceramics, prints and stationery products decorated with her designs.
