Chris Hammerton, Woodland Wanderings
Woodland Wanderings
For the acute cardiac unit, photographic works depicting the landscape close to the Grange University Hospital were collected from local photographer Chris Hammerton. From a spring afternoon with young beech leaves fluttering in a warm breeze to a carpet of bluebells and a small coppice with brightly lit young beech leaves, and from towering broadleaved trees and delicate wood anemones to dazzling low winter sunlight breaking through the bare branches, these photographs show the abundance of local landscapes across the seasons.
Ar gyfer uned acíwt y galon, casglwyd gweithiau ffotograffig yn darlunio’r dirwedd ger Ysbyty Athrofaol y Faenor gan y ffotograffydd lleol Chris Hammerton. O brynhawn o wanwyn gyda dail ffawydd ifanc yn chwifio yn yr awel gynnes i garped o glychau'r gog a phrysgwydd bach gyda dail ffawydd ifanc mewn goleuni llachar, ac o goed llydanddail mawreddog a cheinder blodau'r gwynt i olau haul y gaeaf yn disgleirio drwy'r canghennau noeth, mae'r ffotograffau hyn yn dangos y doreth o dirweddau lleol ar draws y tymhorau.
About the artist | Yr artist
Chris Hammerton grew up in Bridgend, near the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. It was from this coast that his enduring love of nature grew. After studying geography at Bristol University, Chris was drawn to practising landscape photography and, over the years, his style has moved towards more abstract image-making, isolating details of local woodlands and wetlands. He is now based near the Gwent Levels, Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, which provide infinite inspiration.
Magwyd Chris Hammerton ym Mhen-y-bont ar Ogwr, ger Arfordir Treftadaeth Morgannwg. O'r arfordir hwn y tyfodd ei gariad parhaus at natur. Ar ôl astudio daearyddiaeth ym Mhrifysgol Bryste, cafodd Chris ei ddenu at ffotograffiaeth tirwedd a, thros y blynyddoedd, mae ei arddull wedi symud tuag at ddelweddau mwy haniaethol, gan ynysu manylion coetiroedd a gwlyptiroedd lleol. Mae bellach yn byw ger Gwastadeddau Gwent, Dyffryn Gwy a Fforest y Ddena, sy'n ysbrydoliaeth ddi-ben-draw iddo.
